Ethiopia Appoints New Investment Commission Head

Prensa Latina – The Ethiopian government on Monday appointed Fitsum Arega, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Chief of Staff, as general director of the Investment Commission, an entity in charge of executing important national economic projects.

The appointment comes after the resignation of Belachew Mekuria (PhD), ‘for personal reasons’, according to the Fana Broadcasting Corporate report.

Arega already served as head of that institution before taking on the new responsibility in April.

In addition to his role as an Ahmed’s Chief of Staff, he has also been the main communicator of the current administration through Twitter and Facebook.

His last tweet today was about PM Abiy’s meeting with vice president Demeke Mekonnen, speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (Parliament).

The meeting was also attended by Muferiat Kemil, Minister of Peace, and senior officials of the Amhara and Tigray regional states regarding recent events on the identity question of the Raya people.

During the latest reorganization of PM Abiy’s cabinet, the Investment Commission has been given the mandate of overseeing the Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation and the Horticultural Producers Exporters Association.
